Days 379 & 380 Medan (Indonesia) / motorbike GS Dakar RTW overland adventure traveller

  • Miles rode – 18 (29km)

After a day of rest in Medan on Monday Lyndon and I took a taxi to the port at Belawan to collect our bikes. We met Adnan the guy who helps us get our bikes from the port, as we arrived two Australin guys riding from Sydney to London turned up to put their bikes on the boat heading to Malaysia. As often happens on these chance encounters we share information on roads and decent places to visit and stay. We all arrived at the port at 11am and after waiting, seeing customs officers, waiting, getting the carnet completed and more waiting we got away at 2pm.

Our bikes had been taken care of which was great, having now seen the ‘vegetable boat’ close up its amazing it didn’t sink in the sea, it was old and all wooden. Thanks to the skipper and his crew.

It was good riding the short distance back to Medan through the crazy traffic, it was far more dangerous and crazy than I had been used to over the past 5 months but nothing compared to India!
